Where and when did your passion come from for re-inventing male grooming?
I have been a barber now for 14 years and at the start I just fell into the profession, but the more hair I cut the more passionate I got. I think that is what happens as you get better; you always try and outdo yourself on every haircut and make it better than the last. The stage I am at now is how to take the industry in a different direction – there are so many different ways you can push the boundaries and that is what the Bearded Man is all about.
How long has the Bearded Man brand been operating?
The Bearded Man has been operating for 6 months now and they have probably been some of the most fun months of my life.

How has it been to transition to the South side from the North?
North to South – the good old rivalry! But these days I would say not so much. Gone are the days on Chapel Street where you would see guys doing laps with their Euro techno blaring out of the car. More cafes and independent clothes labels are opening up and swapping the exhaust pipe for a skateboard. Chapel street is a fun place for everyone now.
Who are your style idols/ influences?
My one great idol is Vidal Sassoon of course, as he is the man who changed the face of hair forever. Not only have I been a barber, I have worked and done my training with Biba, who have definitely had a big part to play in where I am today. They structure their style on Vidal Sassoon as well.
We love your decks set up in-store. Does music play a big part in your life and setting the environment for the barber store?
MUSIC… where would we be without it? (A very boring place). At the Bearded Man you will hear all sorts of music depending on what mood we are in, but the decks and DJs coming in all the time definitely add that edge and create a very fun atmosphere.

Describe your fashion style?
My style, hmmmmm… My RM boots and black jeans are definitely my go to, and I love hats. You will usually see me wearing my brown Christys’ hat most days.

Do you think the modern man is looking for help to complete his whole look? Including hair/grooming as well as fashion?
The man these days I would say is very aware of his appearance and takes pride in the clothes he wears or the style of his hair. Which is great – keep it up guys!
